What Are The Advantages Of Eating High Protein And Low Carb Foods As A Daily Diet?
What will happen to your body system if you intake primarily meats that contain protein as calorie sources and eat minimal carbs such as whole grain bread in moderation?
Many things can happen but it may depend on you and how you define bread in moderation, as some people do not tolerate it at all whilst others can tolerate a little.
Ultimately if done right, you will switch your body over to a fat burning metabolism rather then a glucose one. This in turn will help you keep your insulin levels down which in turn helps to reduce cardiovascular risk as well as risks associated with metabolic syndrome such as diabetes. Low carb is thought to help with some cancers which depend on insulin.
Low carb can also have a positive effect on hormones, helping women to improve their cycles to the point of even allowing some PCOS women to fall pregnant.
On a lifestyle point of view you will find you’re less hungry and your energy should be on a more even keel, none of these ups and downs that swinging blood sugars brings. You may also experience improvements in digestion, particularly if you omit bread.
If you’re already a type 2 diabetic then low carb should reduce and may even eliminate your diabetes medications which is a very good thing. Particularly, with some recent research suggesting that aggressive drug treatment to bring blood sugars down and reduce cardiovascular risk increases risk of death. One of these studies they had to stop it early because of this!
Remember though, if you eat low carb do not avoid fat.
Here’s a page I put together that collects research on the various benefits of low carbohydrate diets:
Hi Jim,
There are several things that will probably happen. First, you will probably lose some weight. Second, over the long run you will probably greatly reduce the chances of developing type 2 diabetes. There are others, but these are probably the two greatest potential positive benefits. I’m a type 2 diabetic myself and wish a doctor or nutritionist had been able to tell me about these potential benefits before it was too late.
Hope this helps!
