900 Calorie Diet?

I weigh over 200 lbs and have decided to do something about it. I have been working out 4-5x’s a week at the gym and consume only 900 calories per day. I have started losing weight, but am wondering if I am hurting myself by limiting my caloric intake so drastically?
I am looking for good answers, no put downs or rude remarks necessary. Thanks!

yes eat atleast 1200….you will lose weight on 900 but you won’t be able to keep eating such small quantities and your body will eventually crave more and you might end up binge eating….The best way is to eat balanced and healthy…Also lean protein keeps your full longer as well….

900 calories is not enough period. If you deprive your body of fuel eventually you will not lose and your body will store your fat. I would say 1200 at a minimum but a little more deending on how much you weigh. Working out then you need even more food.

I think you may be setting yourself up for failure with such a drastic cut in calories. I think if you up them to maybe 1200-1500 calories depending on your workouts you will find it a bit easier tp keep to. . Slow and steady is best way to do it! Everytime i count calories i get frustrated. Try to eat healthy balanced meals with small portions, and work out as much as you feel you can. That way you feel lik eyou are doing something positive rather then beatin gyour body up! Best of luck to you!

Go you for wanting to lose weight!!!!
It is not safe though to consume less the 1200 calories/day that number may even be higher depending on your age/activity level/metabolism.
Make sure you spread out what you are eating throughout the day so there’s never more then 3 or so hours in between you eating to keep your metabolism from dropping.
    Good luck!!!

You should consult with your doctor. 900 calories seems drastic. I think the usual caloric recommendation for dieting is minimum of 1200 calories. Good luck… you can do it.

Congratulations on taking the first steps to getting healthy! For the amount of time your exercising, you really do need more then 900 calories a day! A typical 5′6″ 200 pound woman should eat at least 1800 calories if you’re exercising as much as you say you are… this will allow your metabolism to keep ragging and burn fat (not just calories!!!) and take you down, at a safe rate to a more healthy weight.
When you exercise, your body needs to have the calories (energy) to 1. use the correct amount of strength to get a good work out and 2. to recover. During the recovery time after working out is when you actually burn a lot of those bad fats!!! So EAT! :)
Also, your metabolism functions because it has food to burn. Without food, it decides to take a break and get lazy. So your body goes into starvation mode and just holds on to everything you eat- turning it into fat b/c it doesn’t know when the next time it’ll get the nutrients it’ll need!
Good luck! You should be proud of yourself for taking the first steps! You can do anything you set your mind to! We only get one body and one life and you’re going to be fabulous!

it kinda depends on what those 900 calories consist of. as long as your eating a well-balanced diet with all the food groups, then its not too bad but its really not too good either
