I’m On A 1200 Calorie/day Diet. When I Burn Calories While Working Out, Must I Replace Them?
I am on a 1200 calorie a day diet, and I am working out alot. I am unsure if I have to replace the calories I burn while at the gym or not?
So say if I ate 1300 calories in the day and burned 400 calories from working out at the gym, so my total calorie intake for the day would be 900. Do I have to re-eat those 400 calories, or will my body go into starvation mode, and I will be unable to lose weight?
you Need to eat at least 2,000 calories a day if your going to be working out. Eating less WILL slow your metabolism!!! This will make weight loss hard in the future and make it hard to maintain your figure. Ever wonder why athletes can eat whatever they want, it’s cuz their burning calories. Don’t cut back your calories JUST INCREASE Exercise(sometimes you might even need to increase calories with increasr exerciese to keep up your metabolism) I know it sounds confusing, but with what your eating, you will go into STARVATION mode!
you will be fine…….no need to replace them …….I’m a trainer…..to lose weight…..you eat less calories than you use in a day…..to gain weight you eat more than your body will use in a day……..so, no need to worry about replacing the calories…..try it for about two weeks…..if nothing seems to work, you can add one to two hundred calories or take away one to two hundred and see how that works…..kind of like fine tuning…….sorry if I’m not wording this really well as I’m tired right now………good luck to you my friend and you can email me for help if you’d like……..good luck
Starvation mode is the biggest load of bullcrap I’ve ever heard.
I was on a 1200 calorie diet and I worked out for 3 hours daily..burning approx. 1400 calories a day from my exercise. I lost 25 pounds in 3 months.
One thing tho..if you’re suddenly dropping from a 2000 cal diet to a 1200 you could drastically slow your metabolism. You won’t gain weight (unless you start binging 2000+cals) but you could slow the weight loss.
I recommend doing this, which worked for me:
Cycling your calories. 900 one day, 1600 the next day, 1200 the other day…for some reason that really worked well for me.
And then once every 1-2 weeks have a 2000 cal day (not over that!). It’ll keep your metabolism from slowing down too much
Your body will not go into starvation mode but probably 1300 calories would be healthier. I was on 1400 calories and couldn’t loose weight and go so discourage I wanted to cry.
Loosing weight for me is impossible.
So I was told eat more protein it fills you up and stays with you more.
Rather than cereal I put the milk into the blender with protein powder.
For lunch I make a hamburger without the bun and a big salad.
today I went out and got a McDonald’s bacon ranch grilled chicken salad. So no one knows I am dieting and gives me advice.
It was great and when I leave grains such as bread, potato and such along I do loose weight without starving.

I would check out this calculator if I were you. It takes into account the amount of hours you spend exercising along with your age, gender, height and current weight and gives you an approximation of how many calories you need to consume in order to maintain your weight or lose weight. It should not be taken as medical advice, as it is not 100% accurate, but it serves as a guideline.
it depends on the weight you wanna lose. I was on a 7,000 calorie a day diet before because i was working out so much, but you dont have to replace them. If you are trying to lose weight, just stick to your plan and work out. The pounds will shed off. However, that is a very small amount of calories. you should probably be eating more around 2,000.
you don’t have to replace teh calories but you do need to refuel your body after workouts. i have a protein shake or slim fast shake and alot of water after a good workout to replace what it takes out of my body.
Yep, you have to eat to replace those calories you lost.
