How Many Calories Should I Eat Per Day??

I’m a few months shy of 17, 5′8 1/2″ and 130 pounds. I burn about 100-200 calories a day walking for exercise and do about 250 crunches. I’ve been trying to drop a few pant sizes and lose about 8 pounds mostly through just being more active, but I’m also lightly dieting- so what’s my daily calorie intake requirement? I’ve been eating about 1200 these past few days but I honestly don’t know if that’s too high/low.

Your body burns a certain amount of calories each day whether you exercise or not. We each have what is called a Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). This rate gradually decreases with age. To the BMR you add the total calories used during the day due to all exercise and activity, which gives you your Active Metabolic Rate.
I am 6′, 170 lbs and 52 years old. My basal metabolic rate is about 1700 calories burned per day. To that number I can add whatever calories I burn during the day due to activity and exercise. That will tell me approximately how many total calories I will burn up in a day.
Once you know this number you can eat however many calories you choose in order to lose, gain or maintain your weight. You burn about 3500 more calories than you consume to lose a pound.
I have a page posted at my website that explains this further. You can also input your own info to see your own numbers as far as calories used in a day.

probably this article might help u….
Should I Weigh Myself a Lot?
Weight change is cumulative and gradual. It’s affected by the overall aggregate of what you eat, and how much you use up the nutritional energy you’re consuming in the form of physical activity. When losing weight, the pounds don’t go off steadily or predictably. Everyone is different. Allowing a month to let the wonderful work you’re doing take effect is far more sane and safe than frequent, compulsive weighing..

    Use http://www.caloriecount.about.com
It helped me lose about 8 pounds fairly quick. It counts your calories, as you enter the foods you eat and the exercise you do each day. You learn what foods are best for you and your minimum and maximum calorie intake per day, to stay healthy. Good luck.

    U R underweight. 1200 is too low. I would suggest 1,600-1,800
