If I’m So Called ‘underweight’ Why Do I Look Chubby?

i’m 5′3 and 101lbs i did my bmi and it was 17.9. but when i was this weight before i looked far thinner. I still have a bit of a belly and big arms now, could that be because i’m skinny fat and just don’t have much muscle so look bigger?
what excercises should i do? and how many calorie intake should my diet be?

Erm…your only a few points of a BMI away from the ‘anorexia’ cut off… My guess is that you DON’T have a ‘bit of a belly and big arms’ but your thinking and perception is becoming skewed. This is what happens when you have eating disordered thinking and when your brain starts to die off because your starving it. I suggest you maybe seek help as opposed to trying to loose more weight. you do not want to get caught in a sysle that’s virtually impossible to break!!
    good luck :)

so far your calorie intake sounded just right, but now u gotta do the strength/weight training 4 those prob areas. for these areas goto your local gym and do the weight resistance machines, like the one where u add the weights on it and u sit on the seat and above your head will be a trapeze bar, grab that bar & pull it down as far as u can ,starting at the most comfortable weight in a set of 20x. as u get used 2 this routine, up the amt. of weights u put on the machine (i dont reraly know what the machine is called, but my relative used 2 use it all the time–there;s a rack of square weights on the back of it & u slide the size weight u want on the cable bf. u start the workout. the amt goes up to like 100 lbs in 25lb increments.

You probably just look proportionate to your height, with nice curves.
But that body composition tells you where your at — which is good.
You seem to know your target areas, tummy, arms, so eat right…
    and target those areas.
DO regular cardio (3-4) times a week to keep you proportionate, and just target those (2) areas with a stomach workout…and bicep tricep and shoulder workouts 3 times a week—(your stomach muscles are more dense than most your body’;s muscles so you can work them out every day — arms and shoulders give a days rest for recovery)
do high reps low weight, for toning
And also think about what your own body’s goals are.
Woman naturally carry a higher fat composition than guys — they should, theyre soft and curvy.
If you want to be one of them stick figure volleyball looking girls, go for 8-10% body fat.
But a shapely girl that looks good can get away with about 15% — and she should – cause guys like curves..
    wel I do anyways
you should be good from there.
HEY ANGELA DOWN THERE — she just said what her Body composition is — so muscle weighs more than fat doesnt apply –since she already knows what her fat content is

    Hey there,
Yeah, fit2fite had the right idea. It sounds like a skinny fat situation and maybe all you need to do is get out more. BMI can be misleading so don’t worry about that.
What I recommend is interval and weight training. Steady rate cardio isn’t anywhere near as effective as, say, Tabata Intervals. Weight training can just be a set of dumbbells, nothing heavy duty. Trust me, a month of this kind of training and you will see a difference. Try to eat whole foods and fruit and veg. Plenty of water! Eat 5-6 small meals every day to burn more fat. Check out my sources, they work. Hope this works for you – it did for me. :)

Muscle weighs more than fat…. so when the scale was higher you must have had more muscle tone…. having more muscle tone looks healthier and sexier anyways so if you want to look better then you should tone up not “loose weight”
check out sparkpeople.com…. it is a free website that guides you to a healthy way to eat and gives you exercises and meal plans. It tells you based on your current weight, age and goals how many calories to consume and exercise and toning you should do per week. It also lets you log your activity log and food items so you can keep up with your calories burned and eaten…. there are also great articles on there that can give you insight on good daily habits and tons of other stuff…..
I know I sound like a commercial but it works I am on there and my friends are on there. one of my friends just celebred loosing 100lbs with the support of spark people and even though your goal may not be that big you still have a goal to be healthy and look great and the site can help you with that.
    good luck!

You probably lost muscle and gained fat. So before when you looked thinner at this weight you had a lower body fat percentage than you do now. I’d suggest gaining some muscle by doing strength training, weight lifting and getting plenty of lean protein in your diet. Don’t go too low on the calories or do too much cardio as this will just lead to further muscle loss.
